I Think I May Be On a Roll…not a Croissant

NaPoWriMo poem Day 5 prompt is an interesting one. Pick a seed name from a seed catalog and write a poem. NaPo’s site linked a couple of online catalogs to choose from but I’ve always purchased seeds from the Michigan Bulb Company. I must admit, I’ve always gotten a kick out of reading seed names. Like this one: Zoey Rey Giant Dahlia. Now, there’s a name for a ballad. But my eye fell on the Fire and Ice Dahlia Mix and my mind immediately quoted Robert Frost and I added my own verse.

Fire and Ice Dahlia

Fire and Ice

by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,

Some say in ice.

From what I’ve tasted of desire

I hold with those who favor fire.

But if it had to perish twice,

I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice

Is also great

And would suffice.

Fire and Ice Remix

By Jesi Scott

If the world would end in fire,

At least then it would be hot,

Warmer than his never-lasting desire

Would be this devastating fire.

And at least it would not

Be cold as icy bones

In the grave that rot,

These weighty stones

His indifference wrought.
